Paranormal Study Reference Articles

“If we go into any study with a preconceived notion of what an answer is, we will automatically tune out the possibility that it’s anything else.”

– Steve Justice, Chief Operations Officer and Aerospace Division Director at To The Stars Academy

There were a lot of paranormal-based articles came across our desks in the last month. The content was quite varied, and we hope that some of the articles below on topics like Werewolves, Death Bed Visions, Historical Ghost Photography, Voodoo Dolls, Military UFO Research, Possessed Cars and many other Fortean forays will be of keen interest to you in your studies. You can see prior monthly news roundups by clicking here.

Quick Site Notes

Before we start off with our monthly news update, there are a few things you might have noticed. First, our site is completely different. We decided to make our site a little more user friendly. The old format was a bit wonky and slow so we decided to liven it up with a new layout. So far, the site is loading faster and there is access to more content on the home page of the site. It was quite a bit of work to dial it in, but we are happy with the results so far.

You may also notice that we allowed some ad space on the site to defray our substantial monthly cost to keep Paranormal Study online. We are working on finding a way to make Paranormal Study sustainable or the site may not be around in 2020.

We have also set a mission of putting up new content weekly. We don’t want to flood our mailing list with emails every time new content is posted, so we may do a bi-weekly update in future months for our mailing list subscribers. We recently put up articles about Nick Redfern’s work, the EVP Circle Technique, and an article examining known fraud by regarded psychic mediums.

Our library has continued to grow as well, and will continue to do so for as long as this site is online. There are great resources there for you to dive into diverse topics like UFO’s, remote viewing, cryptids and mediumship.

Speaking of diverse topics, here are the articles we chose for this monthly news roundup.

Read more, always.

“We also study the human mind and consciousness in the context of death to understand whether consciousness becomes annihilated or whether it continues after you’ve died for some period of time — and how that relates to what’s happening inside the brain in real time.”

– Dr. Sam Parnia

Consciousness Articles

Neuroscientists Say They’ve Found an Entirely New Form of Neural Communication (Science Alert): In what could be a Nobel worthy discovery, scientists have found a new path of neural communication. Using mouse brains, the hippocampus was surgically severed with a small gap in between the two parts – yet communication pathways between the two parts continued. The mechanism for this is not known and more tests are being performed because this may revolutionize what we think we known about consciousness.

The Hippies Were Right: It’s All about Vibrations, Man! (Scientific American): A good exploration of a new theory of consciousness: the resonance theory of consciousness. In this theory, synchronized vibrations may be the root cause of not only consciousness, but also reality. The article lightly explores how seemingly independent variables naturally gravitate towards a synced state spontaneously. What we may consider consciousness could be an iteration of this synced state.

Robert Lanza: The Theory of Biocentrism (YouTube): Robert Lanza made waves a few years back with his theory of Biocentrism which basically states that it is our consciousness that creates the universe, not the other way around. With this in mind, there is no death as consciousness cannot die.

Cryptid Articles

Werewolf Seen In New York State (Cryptozoology News): This article reviews a claim of an upright, seven foot dogman that was observed in the farmlands Central New York. This sighting correlated to observations of UFO’s in the local area.

North Carolina Woman Reports 1986 Encounter with ‘Human-Like Winged Creature’ (Singular Fortean): In the recounting of this encounter, the subject states that a tall human-like creature with giant wings and combat boots attacked her vehicle even as she sped up past 50mph to outrun it. The car shut down and she came to after 4 hours of missing time. This encounter also has a UFO correlation.

The Dogman of Michigan & a Dogged Researcher (Mysterious Universe): Nick Redfern looks into the work of Linda Godfrey and her work with the Dogman phenomenon. Dogmen are typically reported in and around Great Lake states.

Ghosts and Apparitions Articles

“Consider, for example, the case of orbs and the various interpretations to which they have been subjected. On a very simplistic level, an orb in your house “is” a ghost. An orb in the forest “is” an elemental, fairy, or Will o’ Wisp. And an orb in the sky “is” a UFO. But is there really any difference in the phenomenon itself? Or are these differences merely narrative devices that have grown out of a heavily mediated understanding of the event?”

– David Metcalfe

A History of Photographing Ghosts (HyperAllergic): This article is a great primer on the first years of ghost photography. It briefly touches upon the work of Mumler and provides ample historical “ghost photos.”

Why Do People Believe in Ghosts? (The Atlantic): The article asks a very specific question in the title that it fails to answer. Instead, it offers a one-sided scientific explanation of ghosts provided by skeptics. It fails to acknowledge ghostly apparitions that have been documented since ancient Greece and Rome. While not a great article for paranormal insight, it does provide a scientific view into this phenomenon that may be of use for your paranormal studies.

Chilling Tales Of Traveling Ghosts And Phantom Vehicles (UFO Insight): A short, but fun read of ghost reports related to airplane crashes, phantom trains, driverless busses, and a possessed car.

Life Afterlife (YouTube): Life Afterlife takes an intriguing look at the eternal question: Is there life after death? And if so, can we communicate with the dead? Through personal stories from everyday people who claim they’ve made contact with deceased friends and relatives, to self-proclaimed mediums, to philosophers and scientists who’ve dedicated their lives to these issues, this film examines the fact and fantasy of the last great frontier.

Yes, No, Maybe, or Mystery? Oddities of Automatism and Ideomotor Response (Mysterious Universe): This article delves into famous stories about the Ouija Board revealing information that could not have been known to the users. This is counterbalanced against the idea of the ideomotor response being responsible for the Ouija communication.

Calling Earth (Vimeo): Produced, directed, and edited by Dan Drasin, Calling Earth is a full-length documentary on Instrumental Trans-Communication (ITC). The documentary is the first of its kind, and covers a wide range of different ITC research areas. These research areas include:

• Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP)
• Direct Radio Voice (DRV)
• Computer ITC
• Phone Calls From The Beyond
• Visual ITC

Magick

This Is An Actual Army Report On Witches In The Republic Of The Congo (We Are Mighty): The Republic of the Congo fell into chaos a few short years after the Belgian forces unoccupied the country. There were breakaway areas that were resource rich and led by witch doctors. The article illustrates how playing upon supernatural fears of indigenous peoples has been a tactic that the United States military has used in some foreign lands. It was a tactic that was also considered in the Republic of Congo as well to gain access to resources.

10 Steps Toward Making A Real Voodoo Doll (Ranker): This how-to guide which gives you step-by-step instructions on how to make your own voodoo doll.

Magick for Atheists: Why Belief is the Enemy of Magick (Magick.me): Jason Louv explores the topic of belief systems and their effect upon the outcome of magickal practice.

Near Death Experience Articles

After Death, You’re Aware That You’ve Died, Say Scientists (The Science and Space): This article speaks to some interesting facts about bodily death from a medical point of view. Dr. Sam Parnia speaks about the phenomenon of NDE’s and the vivid descriptions that some patients relay back to the doctors after resuscitation. Medical scientists have found that conscious thought can exist for 2-20 seconds after the heart stops beating and Parnia correlates this to the classic NDE experience.

What People Actually Say Before They Die (The Atlantic): A linguist examines the words that are uttered right before death. Although the topic of NDE is not mentioned directly in this article (but the work of Dr. Raymond Moody is), some of the utterances of the dying can easily fit within the context of NDE’s, such as “I want to pull these down to earth somehow … I really don’t know … no more earth binding.”

Who You See Before You Die: Hospice Documenting Patients’ Mysterious Dream Experiences (CBS Pittsburgh): At Hospice Buffalo in New York State, the Chief Medical Officer started to realize that his patients were sharing common dreams, namely the pre-deceased would often have very vivid “dreams” of deceased family members shortly before death. Sometimes, these “dreams” were waking state visions where the deceased family members were seen as being physically in the room by the patient.

Ufology Articles

AATIP Did Not End (Silva Record): Danny Silva has been reporting on all aspects of AATIP as of late. In this article, he digs through the various public statements, interviews and lectures that have been given by AATIP higher ups to demonstrate that the United States Military is still diligently researching the UFO phenomenon; more importantly, the military hasn’t stopped their research despite the defunding of the AATIP program.

AAWSAP and AATIP Dwarfed by the Air Force’s Massive National Air and Space Intelligence Center (UFO’s Documenting The Evidence): This phenomenal piece of US Military UFO research shines a light on NASIC (National Air and Space Intelligence Center). The author tracks NASIC through its prior incarnations and demonstrates that AATIP and AAWSAP both use language that is very similar to the language made public by NASIC (which predates both of these programs). Many students of Ufology aren’t aware of NASIC nor its 3,000 strong staff monitoring and investigating our skies which makes this article must-read material for ufology.

What If China Makes First Contact (The Atlantic): This article probes the question of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It delves briefly into the history of SETI and its resurgence. More importantly, the journalist visits China where the largest satellite in the world now exists and it was built with one purpose – monitoring for extraterrestrial signals.

Pilots baffled as they see UFOs over Gloucestershire with other sightings over the M5 and towards Bristol (Gloucestershire Live): Recently, multiple lights were seen moving in quick patterns over large distances between Gloucestershire and Bristol. Pilots were sent to intercept the lights but could not catch them nor quantify them. Around the same time, these lights were also seen by persons driving on the M5.
